Euro Tips

official EU flag - wiki
here are some of the facts and nice-to-know things that i've learned so far while here in Europe for a month.

- before travelling to europe be sure to know & have a Schengen visa which is a counterpart to ASEAN network to us southeast asians.
- travel insurance & self-supporting papers aka cash/credit card is a must.
- be sure to brace yourselves when you come in the winter months. we tropical asians will consider europe as a sooper big freezer. ranging from -6 to 6degC on a scale. literal chillin' tol.
- shorter, i mean shorter day-hours & long hour-nights in the winter and vice-versa n the summer, gabi na alas kwatro ng hapon pa lang!!
- buildings (office, hotel, towers, etc.) floor levels/stories are labeled as numbers/integer so as to:
1st floor = 1; 2nd floor = 2; Ground floor = 0; Basement 1 = -1 ; Basement 2 = -2
and so on.. -1!! weird but logical!!
- travelling internationally within europe is most easily accesible by train system rather than airplane.
- be sure to make reservations before buying tickets internationally, ticket reservations are free on online bookings.
- be knowledgeable of the train & bus timetables all around europe, tables are based as per hourly-minute.
- toilet/rest room/comfort room(CR) in europe is WC (water closet), so instead look for a WC sign if ur looking for a toilet when in europe.
- almost every public toilet in europe is a pay toilet, usually around 40 Cents to 1 Euro, there's even a change machine for a 2 Euro coins.
- sooper madalang rice meals, OMGeesh! try ur luck to find a nice asian resto somewhere.
- sandwich is the main dish, breakfast, lunch & dinner.
- prepare your legs for long walks... long walks... and longer walks. try renting a bike perhaps.
- don't try looking for an air-con in your room, you'll instead find a heater system.
- try to at least learn basic languages from french, dutch & german - hi & thanks
- left-hand drive so don't be confused, only UK, Jap, Singapore & ml are (famously) right-hand driven(?)
yung iba ay nakalimutan ko na or tinatamad na akong mag type.

My Infinite Playlist

summary
It's been three weeks, two days, and 23 hours since Tris broke up with Nick. And now here she is at his gig, with a new guy. How could she have moved on so fast? This begins the night of Nick, Norah and Manhattan. The night of stripping nuns, hotel ice rooms, Russian food, psychotic ex-boyfriends and lovingly trashy ex-girlfriends. It's the night of Julio and Salvatore. The night of holding hands and writing songs and singing in the rain. It's a night they'll never forget. Written by Anonymous from imdb.
this movie totally got into me! grabeh, ang lufet talaga ng group (team superbad, juno, 40 yr old virgin, knocked-up etc.) na 'to. deep comedy, shallow-true-teenage love kind of something, parang ganun! plus i like norah's character & actress kat dennings & syempre si nick pero parang palaging ganun ang character image nya, pero ok lang! recommended.
but for those who want to know, i really don't have an infinite playlist, konting songs lang ang trip ko. mas appropriate yung term na 'long-time' playlist sa akin. and these songs/albums have been in my playlist forever or quite recently but will stay fornever? :D
- fragmented by updharma down (super fave)
- bipolar by up dharma down (recent fave)
- d'sound selections
- lisa loeb selections
- e'heads live concert set
- nina & mymp selections
- utada hiraku selections
- iputok mo sa labas by brewrats (radio-drama) ??
- classical collections

Francia

euro trip no.4, destination: france. bonjour bonjour! it's paris pare! potek nakikita ko lang sa libro, postcard at internet sya dati! got all the luck right now! bwehehehe
after the belgium stint, we board our next train (thalys) to gare du nord (north station) in france, it was like 2+/- train ride hours from brussels.
when we arrived at the station we quickly went to the subway ticketing office and got so confused with the paris subway thing, it's a spaghetti railway of so many connections and train timetables and berth location that we're on the verge of a tourist breakdown! haha! we finally got our tickets via vending machine with a large roller for selection but got confused again to where platform do we ride. finally we manage to get to the right platform but as the train stopped and i already got on board windy was missing, he was not able to board the train because of so much people but he got on the next train and luckily before we (separately) board we agreed to alight at chatelét station. i got so worried that i even sms windy on our singapore sims, and who wouldn't? potek kaw ba naman maligaw sa paris!! yikes!
from chatelét station we were again lost as we are supposed to be headed to notre dame church, again, thanks to Bokia E66 GPS we got there just in time for the mass - which we never really attended (french mass) but was able to get lots of pics!
after notre dame, we are lost and confused again trying to find the right train to the arc de triomphe. but we got there eventually, and it was huge! we're not able to climb it because it's getting late and we need to rest, so finding the bus from arc de triomphe to ecole militaire (which our hotel is situated) is also a hunt.
after cheking-in, we dispatched our backpacks and walked from our hotel to the eiffel tower, it's a not-so-long walk and indeed we got there and saw light! ay este the malufet eiffel tower. i only saw small figurines of it back then but now it was so so much bigger than me and i looked like i am the small souvenir. grabeh ang ganda. we never hesitated to go up, so we paid up to the 3rd level to see it. up there it's breathless kahit na super laks ng hangin parang bagyo! ang LUFET talaga! lahat-lahat. ang lufet mo pareng gustav!!

Winged Nike of Samothrace and the 'feeling' boy

it has been a long saturday, and we won't stop. super early sunday morning, we're alredy checked-out of our hotel and off to musee de louvre, because of it's long-queue reputation that we're so early. it's also raining and somewhat a blessing that the line was not long, only windy got to queue as i was away looking for the ever-so-hard-to-find-a-nearby-starbucks-although-abundant. i had a loooong walk around the area but to only locate it so nearby the louvre (and @#$%* there's one inside the louvre! FTW!!), well i got my France & Paris city mugs and i'm mostly happy until i became more happier when we got inside the louvre, Whoa!! i saw almost all the famous paintings, sculptures, ruins etc. inside, i think whole day wouldn't be enough to view all the works of art inside. highlights of the museum was the ever popular Monalisa, Virgin of the Rocks, Winged Nike of Samothrace (fave), Venus de Milo, Artemis and a whole lot more grabeh. as in. tulala kaming umuwe ni windy hanggang sa loob ng train na straight run from paris to amsterdam (with a few stops of course).

but paris was not the paris that we expect to see, medyo magulo at madumi na din esp. the subways, sana maayos nila dahil sobrang dami ng tao na gustong makarating dun so tidy things lang dun. but paris is paris pa din. lufet!
it was a great weekend. napaka swerte lang namin ni windang dahil sa oppotunity na ito or talagang mga tsambalero lang kame. salamats pa din!! bwehehe!!

fyi - sabog ulit itong post na ito, wlang check-check ng grammar at errors

next stop: italy?? (huy windy book na yan!!)

Belgiumia

trex @ the natural sciences museum, brussels

euro trip no.3. a saturday stop at brussels, belgium. early morning train from amsterdam to brussels. we alight at brussels-zuid/midi (south) station and quickly transferred to the express line to the airport, where i'm hunting for the starbucks brussels city mug. and i was lucky enough kase isa lang starbucks sa belgium and buti madali lang puntahan hehe!! then punta na kme sa dinosaur museum, we took bus 21 the airport bus and it was our first time to ride a bus in europe - fare=4euros.
we stop at luxembourg station and was nearly lost after the bus ride! salamats sa gps thingy ni Bokia E66 ko (yep nibenta ko kay sarah si htc touch dual ko in replacement). from there we walked our way to the museum, paid 7euros/person and tulo-walay ourselves sa loob dahil sa mga dinosaur bones. grabeh sa mga magazine ko lng sila nkkta dati at sa intornet ngyon eh hawak kamay na waaah!!!! lufet!!
after the museum we lamon muna sa sbarro sa brussels-zuid/midi station, waited until we board the train off to france...
some things i wasn't able to do while in belgium:
- forgot to eat at McDo there
- forgot to buy a belgium ref magnet souvenir
- didn't go to the Grote Markt - Grand Palace (time issue)
- didn't go to the Atomium (pero kita ko sa train)
- didn't see the Manneken Pis (time issue ulit)
- didn't ate any belgian chocolates
- 'di namin nakita yung crush ni windy si Miss Belgium 1994-Cristelle Roelandts haha!!
